Once upon a welcome, where stories begin with a smile and curiosity never sits still.

Kayla James has always believed that the best stories come from close communities and local roots. Raised in a small Maine town, she carries that small-town heart into everything she creates. Today, she is a children’s book author and educator based in Southern Maine, where she lives with her husband and stepson. Drawing inspiration from local places and everyday moments, Kayla crafts vibrant stories designed to spark curiosity and bring families together. When she isn’t writing, you’ll find her performing in community musical theater, exploring the coast, or soaking in quiet, reflective moments by the water at Cundy’s Harbor.
